I am building a number of rods. One for me and the rest for freinds.
I know what reel I will be using but, I don't know what reel they will be using. They don't know either. I am using the 27x reduction for mine. What would you advise for there rods? Thanks, Doug See you on the water, Doug Captain Paddlefoot Re: Guide spacing when reel and reel placement is unknown?

If you know what they're going to be using the rod for then you should have some idea of the approximate size reel they'll be using. Assuming they'll be doing the same as you, set them all up for your reel and use that. A little bit of difference up or down from there isn't going to ruin the rod. A small difference in reels will mean a small difference in performance. Very small most likely.

Figure out what size reel you would use normally. Use those specs to build the rod. Any minor differences won't make any noticible difference. Re: Guide spacing when reel and reel placement is unknown?

A lot that you are talking about depends on the length of the rear grip and where the reel seat will be positioned. You seem to be talking about building a rod in the blind and hoping it will work. Re: Guide spacing when reel and reel placement is unknown?

Doug,
Look at it this way. Production rods are set up for the average reel. They generally work very well. Set up your guide sting so that it will work with the largest reel that is likely to go on the rod and you should be good to go. Be safe Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
