I came across a Harnell 1638R, it needs a little TLC. It is 8 feet long, I have searched
the net for a while now and can't find any more info on it. Anyone have any info on the specs for this rod? Any help is much appreciated. Re: Harnell rod help needed.

Hello Jose,
I can't tell you much since my Harnell catalogs a thing of my ancient past. There may be someone who can recognize the model number. Some more information would be helpful: type of handle (is it a hypalon grip), what kind of reel seat is on rod, what type of guides (are they saltwater guides with a round cradle frame or are they spinning guides or are they snake guides used on a fly rod. You also might include the color of the thread on the guides. A few hers ago a couple of guys in Oregon bought out the rights to the Harnell rods, but they have yet to bring any to market. You might google Harnell Rods in Oregon and see if anybody contacts you. I currently have two Harnell rods I built from Harness blanks. One is an 11.5 foot surf rod and the other is a five foot light action spinning rod. Good luck yo you. Mike Blomme Re: Harnell rod help needed.

Jose:
The last Harnell catalog I have is from 2002-2003, this catalog is from the Oregon based Harnell rod Company, as Mike stated above I believe these blanks never went into production. The 2002-2003 catalog has no reference to your blank # 1638R. I have rebuilt & repaired many Harnell rods, most have white rubber foregrips with the Harnell logo, and are wrapped in the red and yellow. Rich Kline CR Re: Harnell rod help needed.

Harnell also employed some of the older Neo-Cork composite grips on their rods as well. I believe these predated the white rubber grips but am not 100% certain.

Tom:
I believe you are correct, some Harnell rods had the Neo-Cork grips, maybe custom rod builders used Neo, and the Factory use white rubber ? Rich Kline C.R. Re: Harnell rod help needed.

I am not familiar with that number either but if you email me I can give you Jeanne Harringtons email and I am sure she can answer any questions Re: Harnell rod help needed.
