My friend asked me to build him a couple of rods. He is fishing for specs and reds. His favorite rod is a castaway wading special light 6'6". He wants the rod to be the same length he typically throw 1/4oz lurers plus or minus going down to a 1/16 oz with soft plastic occasionally. I was thinking I would go with HM-SJ783-MHX it is 6'6" and is rated for 3/16-5/8 oz. and is a fast action. My concern is that since this rod is rated higher than the castaway he wont be able to efficently throw the lighter lurers. This blank seems to be the right fit other than that. I want to create the lightest rod possible. My questions are: will this rod be able to go down to the lighter wieght lurers and throw them efficently because of the fast tip? How much wieght will paint add to the rod? Are there any other blanks I should consider? Thanks

Bushido blank DS69/4-10 is a great blank for what you are doing. I built 3 for myself for the same thing. Mot's Custom Rods and Reels Re: Blank selection

If he likes the Castaway's why not give Lance a call at Swampland? They are the exclusive Castaway dealer and I am sure that he can get you what you are looking for.

I have to agree with Wes on this one.... That DS69/4-10 is the PERFECT choice for what your friend wants. _______________________________ God Bless, Don Morse 800-516-1750 ext. 1207 / don@americantackle.us Rod Building..... It's What We Do. Re: Blank selection
