Minima Set Up

I am building on a RX7 IP843 blank using a 3000 series reel with 10# mono. On my set up i found the choke guide with 27x method. My butt guide is a 20M then SV16-SV10-F6 to tip. My question is the distance between the butt guide and the next reduction guide is 14ins. This is my first try with the Minima guides. The few rods i have built the the reduction guide is closer to the butt guide. Is the 14in distance seem right or did i do something wrong in my set up.

Thanks,
Roger

Not necessarily anything wrong - the ring size and butt height will determine where that particular guides needs to go. If you want it closer to the butt guide then you need a larger ring and/or higher frame for that guide.

If you preselect the guides, you may have trouble. If you simply let the line path determine what size and height guide you need you'll do better. But you will have to have a selection of guides present.

Thanks Tom. I usually order 2 each go guides from the butt guide to the running guides and i thought i order 2 sv20 but i didn't. I believe a sv 20 would been better than the 16sv.

Very possibly, or a higher frame 16, which I think would be even better.

High frame 20 set at 19 inches from the face of the reel.
Then, down to SV 16, 10 and 6,5 or 4 fly guides to the tips.

I just put the 2nd guide at a distance, so that the line just makes a straight line. This is typically somewhere between 10 and 15 inches.

Be safe
