Fly tying thread used as trim bands

I was curious. Would I run into any problems using 210 denier fly tying thread for trim bands? I only have a couple colors of rod thread, but every color for tying jigs. Would there be any problem? I plan to coat with color preserver.

You will have no problems if you make sure to coat with 3 coats of cp and make sure to let completely dry before finishing.

Try and make sure you're not using waxed thread. Other than that, it'll be fine for trim.

What will happen if using waxed thread? Probably the CP wont soak in? I think all of mine is waxed, but could get some new at Barlow's. I was wanting a FL orange to trim my fl green wraps. I originally did a silver trim (the other color I have and a little metallic lime), but would kind of like to try a fl orange. Barlow's doesn't sell a fl orange rod thread, but does have a 400 denier non waxed fly thread. Might see how the metallic orange rod thread looks.

Waxed thread will cause fisheyes. CP over waxed thread may prevent it.

If you find non-waxed, non-silicon treated fly tying thread please post the thread's brand and name - and the material it is made from. I have been unable to locate that product.

I recently bought some Fl Fire Orange 210 denier from Jann's Netcraft. I don't believe it is waxed. Does not say waxed on the spool. Beautiful color.
