Hey guys, anyone ever use a watercolor pencil to write on blanks? Ive heard people do it and I know you have to rough up the blank but I haven't heard anyone use this with success. Not that anyone has failed either...
Let me know if you have done this. Re: writing on rods using water color pencil

Never tried it, but have settled on what seems to work best with me: black india ink on light rods, white on dark rods. The white india ink I found is opaque, flows very well through nibs. Just let it dry well before coating with epoxy - won't smudge. Re: writing on rods using water color pencil

I guess I have to teach myself how to use one of these pens. Re: writing on rods using water color pencil

A couple tips. It helps, especially if you are writing on epoxy, which is sort of soft, to burnish the nibs so no sharp edges catch on the epoxy. Also, build yourself a jig which is simply a board with a slot the length of it, a slot that sinks the blank so its writing surface is lower. This helps in a number of ways (better ergonomics, sort of a natural guide, blank is steadier). Do some practice tries to prove you're getting the right spacing and the right amount of ink in the nib. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
