Problems with plastic/nylon gimbals?

Getting ready to install a gimbal on a fresh 50lb class stand up rod. Total rod length is five feet eight inches. Have an American Tackle tuff butt and planned to install a Fuji plastic/nylon gimbal. A fishing friend said that at 50lbs I should only use a Aftco aluminium gimbal, that the plastic ones break. I have seen some cheap plastic crap on store bought stuff but the Fuji item looks strong to me. Has anyone here ever had any experience with one of these gimbals breaking or cracking in use?

The fuji is strong but isn't cheap. Can't comment on others.

Did a rod with a slick butt sort while back. The perfection ball gimbal was a perfect match in OD and look great.

No problems with Fuji gimbals. Might want to check with Billy Vivona, he has built/used a ton of heavy rods.

I have used lots of them on wire diver rods for Great Lakes King Salmon. These rods troll fully loaded at about 15# drag and take strikes from 20# plus kings all day long(trolling at 3mph), all summer long in a fixed rodholder at a right angle to the load and I haven't seen one break or crack.

Bill:
Used many Fuji gimbals on 50 lbs class trolling rods, never had any fail or break. also they don't scratch or leave marks on your boat's fiberglass finish.

They are also easier on your feet when the rods drops on them
