Selecting Minimas 4 guides

Hello,

I'm building a 6'10" spinning rod and want to try out minima 4 guides. I will be using a size 2500 shimano reel with 6lb fluoro and will be switching over to braid with Fluoro leader at times. I'm wondering which guide and size should I use? I was thinking size 20-10-5 tm3xg match guides and then five size 4 tfx3xg runners plus the tip? Total of 8 guides plus tip guides. Would I need more guides? And would I be able to get away with this set up or can I go smaller guide sizes?

Also, any idea of how I would go about setting the guides? GPS or NGC or even the KR concept since the match guides almost seems like kr guides. I was thinking of using the table edge method to find my choker point and then set up my transition guides. Sorry for the many many questions but any input would be appreciated! Thanks

Plenty of good ways to do it, here's one very simple way:

Sid,
I would make the size 20 a match guide, Then make the 10 and 5 SV guides. Then down to the size 4 runners. You may only need one less runner. The speed of the blank will determine whether you need 7 or 8 guides.

It will work great.

Be safe

Thanks for the quick responses guys! This will be on a rainshadow xsb822.5 blank which is medium power and fast action.

Roger, if I wanted to use the KR concept with these guides, should I stick with the match guides for the transition guides since they're high framed? Or could I get away with the 10 and 5 being sv guides? Or should I just stick with using the NGC in fear of too much pressure on the running guides? Thanks.

And just to make sure I got it right, i will be using their fly guides as the runners correct? Such as the cf4cg, xf4xg and their titanium frame tfx3xg?

Sid,
Yes, SV for the 10 and 5. Fly guides for the runners.

I just finished several rods using this exact configuration and they worked very well indeed.

Be safe

With that size reel and using braid you could go with a 16M guide for a butt guide then transition to your runners. the 20M may or may not work better, but try the 16. I bet it will work great for that blank and setup.

I was planning to use the table edge method to figure out my choker and so on. Hopefully that works out.

As far as the butt guide goes, would a size 16 be good for 6lb fluoro also? Or should I stick with a size 20? Thanks again guys.

And if I do oh size 16, what size would i use for the transition guides? 16-8-5?

The line path will generally determine what sizes you need to use. The cost of these guides is slight, so buy all the sizes and use what's required.
