x27 guide layout

I am new to building spinning rods. I am trying to use the x27 system but I'm not sure if I'm doing it correct. My spool diameter is is 45mm so I multiplied 45x27 and got 1215mm which is 47.8inches. I measured this from the lip of my reel mounted on the rod and it put the choke guide about 12 inches from the tip on a 6'6inch rod. Did I do this properly and is this too close to the tip for the choke? Thanks in advance for any help.

It makes no difference where the choker guide is located in relation to the tip of the rod. Rod length has nothing to do with anything. The important measurement is how far from the reel the choker is located - that is the span where line control takes place. The rod length beyond the tip is of no concern. 20 inches from the tip or 2 inches from the tip matters not - it is the distance from the reel spool to the choker guide that matters.

The choke guide should be 1215mm from the reel spool. How far the choke guide is from the tip of the rod doesn't matter.

If your measurements are correct for this rod then the face of your reel is roughly a foot and a half from the end of the butt. I think the length of the butt is a little long for the length of the blank which moves the reel closer to the tip. Just a thought.

Hi Lynn. Exactly a foot and a half. Good advice. Next build I will consider a shorter rear grip. Thanks.
