Hi, I have a set of dream reamers that I bought from one of the bigger retailers listed in the left side bar.
Unfortunately it keeps coming loose from the handle when I use it. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a fix that someone might be able to suggest to me? Epoxy in the handle perhaps? Thank you. Re: Dream Reamers coming loose

Hello John,
Had that happen to a few of my reamer handles over time. In a pinch I scuffed up the inside of the handle and shaft, mixed up some Rod-Bond epoxy, and applied to both surfaces before fitting them together. Worked great and hasn't loosened up at all since then. -chad Re: Dream Reamers coming loose

I bet the handle is reverse threaded. Re: Dream Reamers coming loose

Hello,
The dream reamers I have thread onto a metal shaft which is then glued into the handle. In my case the threaded section remained tight, but the adhesive holding the handle onto the shaft let go, thus allowing the handle to spin freely. -chad Re: Dream Reamers coming loose

The ones I had, had a pin to keep that from happening in them. But they where not Dream reamer brand. I quit using them all together. Like others said I use them in a drill and they just get messed up. Get one wedged into an acrylic reel seat and you will know what I am talking about lol. So now I just make my own. Go down to harbor freight and by the cheapest drill bit set you can find, this is your lifetime supply of drill shanks. Then just cut up old blanks or rod pieces you have laying around that fit the tapers you want. I actually find they match rod tapers better then any market reamer. A bit of contact cement and a roll of sand paper from the plumbing section (strip these down you can get three strips out of one roll) and I am sure you can see where I am going. Ok just incase. You glue a strip of the sand paper with the contact cement onto the rod blank/section. Insert a drill bit into the rod blank and epoxie it in. Whamo your dreaming! Re: Dream Reamers coming loose

Jimmy,
What do you use for a handle when you do this? Re: Dream Reamers coming loose

I had the same issue, and as previously mentioned, the epoxy worked great. I just mixed a little extra when I was attaching my grip to the blank, it feels just as good as new. Re: Dream Reamers coming loose

I also think they have a reverse thread. Turn counter clockwise and the handle should not come off.
If I am not mistaken if you use them in a drill (I use an 18v Dewalt) they recommend that you run them in reverse so that the spacing in the emery clothe helps to remove the cork or EVA dust. Re: Dream Reamers coming loose

Hello,
Jimmy- Thanks for sharing how you make your reamers. Looks like they would work well for those blanks that taper gradually. Out of curiosity what type of arbors are you using to center the drill bit inside the blank? -chad Re: Dream Reamers coming loose

Haha ya I have had a few explode on me. I just use some paper tape to build arbors to center the drill bit. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
