Can somebody tell me what diameter the grip needs to be where it slides up under the swell on an Aero reel seat? I would be curious about both the 16 and 17 size seats. Re: Aero Seet grip question

Marty, I've only used the 16mm, and turn my own grips...I do mine on a slight taper, 24.5mm OD at the very front up to ~26.3mm., 3/4" back. Re: Aero Seet grip question

Marty,
Just use a caliper and measure the ID of the reel seat. I use a nominal 1 inch in diameter grip and I have to taper it just a bit for a size 16. The 17s would be a bit larger, but I have not used a size 17. I normally do a double swell on the grip. i.e. you have a reel seat swell, then the back of the reel seat that is a bit under 1 inch. I will continue that for a bit and then swell the grip again a bit toward the butt of the grip to give a double spot on which to grip the rod without having the hand slip;. Be safe Re: Aero Seet grip question

Just referenced the Mudhole catalogue... .998" OD for 16mm seat, 1.08" OD for 17mm seat
