Hi All,
I am going to build a spinning rod for a retirement gift for my Dad. I need help picking one form Mudhole. I need to get it form them because I already have an order in with them for another blank so to save on the shipping ($43 to Canada) I need to include it with my current order. They are holding this order for me until I find this blank! My Dad will fish mostly for walleye and bass. I think something rated for 6-12lbs fast action, medium power 7' will be best? I have a Fenwick HMX-S702M-XF (xfast M) here at home and would like a blank similar to this. The problem I am having is it has to be a 2 pcs. I found a Batson blank ISP843F but unfortunately for me Mudhole doesn't carry them. If I have to break down and order from somewhere else I will but I thought I would ask the pro's for help first. I have only ever casting rods so maybe I am over thinking this? I don't know. And if possible I would like the blank to be as close to black as possible. I think I am going to go with gold trim bands to represent "the golden years" of retirement. As always I really appreciate the help! Thank You, Chris Tulk Re: Blank Selection Help

St Croix 2S70MLF2 would be a nice option. They are a very high quality blank for the price. Glossy jet black as you desire, two-piece as well. On top of that, you can get a matching case for it ... St Croix Traveler RC45. Re: Blank Selection Help

Hi Jim,
Thanks I will go look at it. Regarding the case I am actually making a case from wood. My father-in-law is a very good woodworker, he is going to guide me. Thank You, Chris Tulk Re: Blank Selection Help

Mud Hole has a whole bunch of MHX two piece blanks.
Look at the SJ842 or 843 or the SB 842 if you want a slightly softer rod. You can get a good deal on the other parts by buying it as a kit, or you can do it yourself. If you are in Southern Ontario E-mail me... Garry Re: Blank Selection Help

I just finished a 7' MHX SJ842-2 this past weekend, taking it out tomorrow. Practicing in the backyard last night had me smiling! I also bought a 7' MHX MB843-2 which I'll build as a casting rod. These sound close to what you want I think.
(Disclaimer: Just a novice builder in it for a hobby. My recommendations may just be worth what you paid for them!) John Re: Blank Selection Help

Hi Garry thanks for the advise. I was actually zeroing in on the SJ842.
John can ask what colours your wrapped with and what guide set did you go with? You can respond via email if you like. My email address is public. Thank You, Chris Tulk Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
