Just looking to see where everyone else places their first guide (from reel seat) on your centerpin rods.
I will look at the hieght of the reel and make a judgement, normally end up placing it around the same place I would put the first stripper guide on a fly rod.

I just built a 13ft. rod and placed mine 26 inches from the center of the reel seat.

A lot depends on the height and ring size of the guides you will be using. Tape them in place, then do a stress or load test to see how they affect the rods action.

I have. I am running a 5" reel on this one and I am a little taller with some longer arms. I am about 31" from the end of the reel.

Eric, I am 6' 4", and have long arms too. 31 inches sounds in the ball park. How long is the blank?

What do long arms have to do with CP guide placement?

Side cast or Wallis cast makes a difference in guide placement. I agree it should be where you would place you r first guide as a stripper on a fly rod.

just like a fly rod long arms make a differance on distance from the reel [ handle ] when you use your hand to reach up for the line , the length of your arm counts to do a good job , not to say you can't use a short distance , but you will be a better at it if your frist guide is up pass where you can reach it I think SID

right Rolly, that is the deal here. It is a 13' blank. I like my reel approx. the distance from the end of the blank that is equal from my elbow to my hand. Then from holding the reel and reaching out with my opposite hand and that is where I place the guide.

When doing either a wallis cast or side cast you use your non reel hand to guide the line up to the first guide. So placing your guide beyond your reach keeps you from getting tangled up in it.
