I have a request waiting for a customer of mine to have a custom built, 7' mh/h rod for carp fishing. Trouble is I am having trouble finding anything that fits his needs. He needs to be able to cast at least one oz. and up to 2 oz. He will be using an Abu 5500 and 17 lb test. Any suggestions welcome and appreciated. Re: carp fishing in the carolinas, blank question

Hello Wes.
I think that with a fish like a carp you would want something to handle a strong but sort of slow fish, so I would go with a FT700(7', 10-17#, fast, butt: .797, tip: 9) from Gator (MudHole sells them). They are glass blanks so they are built proof but heavy compared to the graphite blanks. If they are too heavy for you, you can go with an IM-6, like a CRB, IS701M,(7', 14-18#, 1-2oz., Fast, butt: .453, tip: 7.) in any of five colors. Bob, New Bern, NC. I have built some 6ft6" from the crb line. Make sure of the tip action he likes. The rod has to have plenty of power as the fish can range from 5-60+lb, but a soft enough tip to lob the bait. If he really likes a soft tip then take a look at a live bait blank. Just don't ask for his "recipe." those carp guys are really obsessive and secretive lol Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
