When doing a tiger wrap can you use regular nylon thread and cp for the top wrap or does it need to be a ncp thread?

Regular nylon is fine, used with CP.

Do you coat before or after the pullout of the unwanted thread?

I would apply CP beforehand so as not to dislodge or disturb the remaining thread when the sacrificial thread is removed.

It's not exactly "my book." I wrote it for Amato Publications and they sell it through most rod building supply houses. I'm sure you can find it from most any of the sponsors here.

Trying to sort this out a little bit in my head. If I do a Green/Silver underwrap and black overwrap the colors I would see would be dark green and silver swirls. If I did a black/silver under with a green over I would see predominantly green with silver/black swirls...right?

No. The top color determines the overall color. The bottom determines whether the effect will be marked or subtle. Contrast is key.

Reading the article will explain this.
