Looking for options for glossy cherry red grips for 7' freshwater rod. Looking for the color of Testor's glossy red paint in a grip. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/06/2014 08:13PM by Jose Palimetio. Re: cherry red grips

Foam Core, Carbon-Skinned Grips with red pigment in the top coating is certainly one option.

As an alternative to Tom's suggestion, I recently had Riley Rods make to order some foam core grips for painting, and they recommended the fiberglass over the carbon skin. I wanted a white base coat for some custom airbrush work and they came out a very uniform color. I'm not sure just how opaque or semi-translucent of a cherry coloring you are looking for, but when you use the carbon fiber some of the fiber may show through as it very dark compared to fiberglass. This effect could be completely acceptable, or a problem depending on what look you are trying to achieve. If you go with carbon fiber, you might need more than one coat of pigmented finish to get a completely uniform color. Re: cherry red grips

If the testor's color is what you want, use it. For the grip you can use foam core, eva, cork, anything. Seal the grip with epoxy, this might take a few coats. Once it is sealed, prime grip white and paint with the testor's paint. Once painted, seal the grip with a few coats epoxy. It will take some time from start to finish due to dry times, but you would have a grip the exact color you want. Re: cherry red grips

why not just pour the solvent off the paint and use the Testors pigment to color the epoxy as is done when marbling? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
