Compressed closed wrap, spider? St. John's ?

I am building a shark rod, 40-100lb 7 ft. Not much room for decorative wrap with the long foregrip and 8 guides. I have 119 mm between 1st And 2nd guide wraps. Base circumference at 1st guide is 51 mm and tip is 46. A square wrap would have 2 repeats before tie off? I would rather do a compressed spacing to get more images in that space. Diamond would work of course, but what else ? I never see St. John's or spiders compressed. I can see how they would be distorted. What wraps would look good? Which One from Billy's book? Suggestions? Thanks jim

What about a dragon scale and maybe even a couple of olive branches?

By dragon scale I think he means this- [www.rodbuilding.org]

Check the 2nd part of the story. You can work on as many axis as you want.

You could also go out as far as you want with the wrap and place the first guide on top of the wrap.

"You could also go out as far as you want with the wrap and place the first guide on top of the wrap."

Yeah, i sort of thought of this... after the fact. I already laid down and put epoxy onto my underwraps. I have not wrapped the guides though.

The multiaxis wrap is another good way to get more images in that little space. "scales" as suggested by Mark is the leader right now. I am working on another wrap right now... I'll do this one pretty soon though. If anyone else has any ideas, let's hear them. I'm still open to suggestions... Jim
