stripping guides

I am building a 9'0" 5 weight fly rod. Some people recommend using 2 stripping guides ( 10mm and 12mm) while others just call for a single 12mm stripping guide. I can't see how a second stripping guide would improve performance. Any thoughts on this question would be appreciated.

Unlikely, but simple enough to find out - tape up both sets and cast the rod. That would probably tell you more than all the forum posts in the world will.
