Sanding Epoxy

Hi All,

To start I did do a search on sanding epoxy. Found almost what I was looking for. I just completed my first graphite grip. I noticed there are quite a few micro bubbles in the finish and a couple burrs. I need to give it a light sand before my final coat of epoxy. The epoxy has been curing now for two days. My question is should I wet sand with 3M or dry sand?

You can dry sand but it might still be a bit soft, depending on the brand you are using. Just test lightly to make sure you aren't removing too much material or gumming up the sandpaper.

Thanks Terry. Is a wet sand or dry sand better? I used the epoxy from Riley Rods. It's very hard stuff!

Set sanding is simply a means of keeping fine paper clear from clogging. Unless you have a lot of sanding to do, dry sanding should be fine.

Dry sand. If its rough a quick 220 grit then a 400 grit and finish with Very Fine maroon Schothbrite. You can sand down to and into the carbon if necessary just don't go through the sleeve.

Once you are past your learning curve and are getting good results out of the wet lay-up you can go straight to Very Fine maroon Scotchbrite without any sanding.

The better you get at not having any bubbles to better the results will be.
