Have a question regarding the finish on blanks. A friend of mine has a spinning blank with a matt finish and he wants me to build it for him but he wants it to have a gloss finish. Can I epoxy the whole blank with a thin coat or spray it with a polyurethane before I wrap it? Re: Blank Finish

Epoxy will be very heavy, permagloss would be a better choice. Re: Blank Finish

Since your matte blank already has a satin finish on it, you could just "mist" spray it with an automotive clear coat. I don't do this application process myself (as of yet), but many on here do and hopefully they'll chime in. If I were tasked with the effort that you've undertaken, I would likely pay an auto body shop to do this as they'd certainly do a better job than I would. I think the majority of us would concur on strongly recommending that you don't use epoxy for this process. Permagloss is also a great option once you get the hang of it. There's a lot of discussion covering this topic in previous threads too. Re: Blank Finish

I guess I can't call myself a newbie but I do lack experience. I just did a spinning rod on a cheap matte blank for personal use. Before I started the thread wrap I just used a wipe on poly and it looks good. Am I in for a disaster later? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
