I feel like everyone knows this but me, I plan on re purposing a old IM6 5/6 8'6" fly rod into a spinning rod. What can I expect as far as line test and lure rating? I plan on using this for trout fishing. I have stripped the blank and it is ready for spinning guides and a Tenn. cork grip. Re: everyone knows this but me

You could do some "Common Cents System" testing to answer your questions accurately but my guess is to use line around 6lb. test or less and lures around 1/16 to 3/8 oz. Re: everyone knows this but me

I agree with Ron's comment. It will be a rod for 6-10 lb line and an average 1/8th - 1/4 oz lure.

Ross and Roger, thanks for the info. I have been reading the "common cents" articles. They are very informative and take an approach that is logical. I like the idea of giving my new creation a random number and then finding out how to describe it to others thru the number translator. lol Do people still use lol? I plan to make this rod as light as possible, light guides, minimal wrap, Tenn. handle, small reel. Re: everyone knows this but me

Well I have finished the flyrod to spinning rod conversion, this is my first full build. It looks ok, I must have bumped a guide and now it sits ascew on the blank. Nothing tremendous but I can feel the tip of the foot. I am contemplating removing that guide and redoing it. Can I heat the guide and turn it back or is this a bad idea? I would redo it. Heating and moving the guide will loosen the bond making the guide unstable. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/06/2014 10:46AM by Ross W Pearson. Re: everyone knows this but me

Yea, I feared that, as it turns out it was only the tag end of my thread that I felt. I sanded it and put a second thin layer over it to get the shine back. My eyes are not what they used to be. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
