I decided to convert an old Garcia colonon rod with a detachable wood butt into a 1 piece rod.I would rather use something stronger than just the new graphite reel seat to join the rod with the new eva grip extension I`m adding to the rod.I want to keep it as lightweight and as strong as possible. What`s the bet way to do this? Typically you would look for a scrap of rod of the same material but a little bigger. The idea is to slide your blank inside of it, leaving an overlap of a few inches for the glue.
Now in your case, since the part you are removing was all handle, you might consider a carbon/texilum tube and mount your new reel seat in it. You could build arbors out of drywall mesh and glue with epoxy. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: converting 2 piece rod to 1 piece

I have done this quite a bit and I like to use the Graphite Blank cut offs that I get from Lamiglass,as I live not to far from them or like Russel points out you might consider a caron/texilum tube for the extention part of the rod. You will want the extention to be as tight as possible with no movement or bend to it,but unlike Roger I would use Rod Bond,it does add more waight too it then Epoxy Glue does but just a pinch!
