White Material On Nylon Thread

Currently wrapping a rod using navy fish hawk thread. Seeing whit spec's coming off the thread. I am assuming that it is sizing and shouldn't have any concerns. Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks

NCP thread or regular nylon

If NCP you may be seeing the coating that is put on to hold the color

In either case if you want to keep the color of the thread Put a nice coat of CP on the thread Let dry - overnight - Then finish

That does not sound right
I would suggest do a wrap CP if being used Then finish Just to be sure the thread is OK before you do the complete rod
I have never seen any white coming off regular nylon ???

I had this or maybe similar issue before with black fish hawk. When wrapping a thread i had some sort of white residue visible on the surface. Found out later after unwinding some thread from the bobin then it was just white talcum looking powder, which was being used on ncp thread. They both were packed in the same bag for shipping.
Did you have your regular nylon shipped with ncp thread in the same baggy? If so, try to unwind few superficial layers and see if problem is still there

This is called trimer. It happens in the dyeing process when the product has not been washed out correctly after the dye has been applied.

NCP thread contains chalk which helps it maintain the color under epoxy, however I have never seen bits or flakes of it on the thread.

I had a similar case reported about two years ago. It was said to have a white powder appearance and was on black nylon. The customer discarded the thread before I had a chance to see it. The manufacturer responded that the powder looking material was actually white nylon specks created in the manufacturing process and that they would take steps to eliminate the issue. I have not had any additional reports since that time.

Phil E x 2. But I have found a white powder on the thread once when I got sloppy and sanded some epoxy off bad epoxy job, then the thread trailed through the residue picking some up.
