I need to wax a mandrel before gluing up cork rings on it. I have beeswax. No Parrafin. Will the beeswax be OK?

You can go with a release agent or not. It is up to you.

Normally, after gluing up and letting the glue dry, you can simply chuck the mandrel into a drill and spin the set of rings off of the mandrel.

But, certainly a bit of wax will work.

But remember, if you do put wax on the mandrel, and it stays on the inside of the cork ring, then that wax will tend to make the bond between the grip and the blank less secure when you finally glue it onto the rod.

Of course, if the hole is less than the size of the blank, and you ream the grip after completing the shaping, this is a mute point, since all of the wax will be reamed out of the cork.

I may be way way off here but I seem to remember a chemist here saying that beeswax will enhance a bond and paraffin will prevent a bond. I may be all wet but seems like that was posted here awhile back. Beeswax seems sticky to me and by itself might cause problems. I'd go by the grocery store and pick up a stick of paraffin just to be on the safe side. What's a length of nice cork worth?

I glue mine on a threaded rod When dry Loosen one nut then tighten the other They come right off
Or just screw then off

Then ream for the mandrill I use Scrap blanks so I got a taper Shape then glue to the blank

Partall Paste is great if you can get it. It is normally used for fiberglass mold release.

Pure carnuba wax also works great. I have also used Johnson & Johnson Paste wax

I seem to be getting away with only rubbing old birthday cake candles on my mandrels!!! Works for me!!!

all will work you use what you have readdy, BEESwax is great , I use it , as I can see an feal it on the rod , some one pointed out about the size of blank & size of rod an the bonding of rings
to blank , I can build up the threaded rod better as it is a little stickey [ mine is ] good luck , if you can't get it off find some one with a ARK welder an heat up the rod as I have used it a few times for friends SID

If you are using Rod Bond You do not need much AT ALL a thin coat on one ring them press the other on it and turn After all are glued clamp

Vaseline would probably work too.
All you need is a thin coat of something to act as a barrier and stop the glue from adhering to the mandrel.

There ya go !!! Instead of buying other products that will take you first born and your house

I have used Pam cooking spray with success. I use it for the pour foam grips on a mandrel.

By the way, toilet wax rings, are a very good inexpensive source for bees wax.

It can be used or not.

If it is used, just give it a good rinse with nice hot water and the bees wax will be as pure as the driven snow!!
