I hope that someone who's been down this road before can help me out.
My problem is also small light baits. I want to throw 1/8th oz. in-line spinners as far as possible. When I found that the ultra light rods in the local shops were too soft to do the job I decided to try to build my own. My first attempts were the S781-MHX and the S841-MHX Ultra-lights. Both were nice rods, but also too soft to give me the tip speed needed to get distance from these small baits. My best effort so far is the SJ720-MHX, however at 6 feet, it's shorter than what I want. In a perfect world, I'd like a 6'9" to 7' blank with enough power to throw 1/8th spinners 90 feet. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks Garry2rs Re: Long casts with small baits #2

You might try the lightest possible power in a popping blank.

Try one of these. Baston products XSB80275, XSB8225 or the XSB842. Re: Long casts with small baits #2

I use a Rainshadow IP840 and throw an 1/8 oz jig and tube at least 90 ft. If it will do that , it should throw an 1/8 on Rooster tail just as well if not better. I think the IP series will load better than an SJ series. Of course this is just an old Crappie fisherman's opinion. J.B.Hunt Bowling Green, KY Re: Long casts with small baits #2

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I will use this rig for pond trout during the winter in Arizona, and for crappie back in Canada in the Spring. In both locations I am often fighting a headwind. Both also have Bass that occasionally make life more interesting. Garry2rs Re: Long casts with small baits #2

St Croix 5S76MLXF the tip of an ultralight with the backbone of a spinjig blank. Tackletour I think tested a factory rod some years back, loved it I believe for trout, bass, etc. Re: Long casts with small baits #2

The XP840 is one that I use with the Fuji CR Concept guides and is a dream to get the small stuff out there. Truly amazing! Chester May your line be tight and your beverages be cold! Re: Long casts with small baits #2
