What is the difference between a Rainshadow RX7 Graphite blank and RX6 Graphite blank in terms of performance between the two this will be a Heavy Action Bass rod for the Calif Delta. Glenn McMurrian Re: RX7 Graphite ver's RX6 Graphite

Hello Glenn.
If I recall rightly the RX6 & RX7 are the same as IM6 & IM7 and if so the difference is in the Tensile Strength, IM6= 760, IM7=780Thousands of PSI, both have 40 millions Modulus of Elasticity. If I am WRONG someone will set me straight(I'm just starting to get interested in the different aspects of blank manufacturing. The 7 would be a little stronger for the same material, taper and ID/OD.(sorry forgot the Material part). Good Luck. Bob, New Bern, NC. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/10/2013 09:55AM by Robert A. RX6 = 33 million strain rate
RX7 = 43 million strain rate Please keep in mind that just because two rods both have the same strain rate doesn't mean they have the same material. There are many ingredients in their recipe beside graphite that make up a rod blank construction just like there are many "grades" of graphite with the same strain rate. you will find the RX7's (most of the time) slightly lighter.
They are crisper, more responsive, and in my opinion slightly more sensitive then the RX6's Re: RX7 Graphite ver's RX6 Graphite

Hello Chester.
The numerical information listed above by me was gleaned from 2 articles written by Emory Harry & Jack Hurt (pg. 7 table 2) and printed in RM Magazine part 1 in V6-I6, part 2 in V7-I1. However I have taken a second look at the material I have and found a data sheet from HexTow that someone posted a link on this forum (and I can't find again) that lists: (1). Fiber Type. (2). Number of Filaments. (3). Tensile Strength in ksi & MPa. (4). Tensile Modulus Msi & GPa. (5). Strain (%). (6). Weight/Length (g/m). (7). Density (g/cm3). (8). Standard Spool Size (lb). 1: IM6 & 2 different IM7's. 2: IM6= 12000 IM7= 6000 / (2 IM7's listed) 12000. 3: IM6= 833 & 5740 IM7= 770 & 5310 / 822 & 5670. 4: IM6= 40.5 & 279 IM7= 40.0 & 276 / 40.0 & 276. 5: IM6= 1.9 IM7= 1.8 / 1.9. 6: IM6= 0.446 IM7= 0.223 / 0.446. 7: IM6= 1.76 IM7= 1.78 / 1.78. 8: IM6= 8.0 IM7= 2.0 / 4.0. So which one is right? Re: RX7 Graphite ver's RX6 Graphite

Robert,
The numbers that I posted came right from Batson's catalog. I think we can both be saying the same thing, if that is possible. There are a number of materials that go into making a graphite rod that can have a baring on the final product. There are also as you pointed out different families (IM6, IM7 or IM8's) that can have overlapping properties so it really in more than just a number that is important in finding the rod blank that you want. I would agree with what Steve said. I think they are well worth the extra price. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
