I have a 1953 Shakespere Wonder Rod w/case, loked at after a few years, and the thread was missing on a couple of guides.
Question is - rewrap with epoxy or without, came with out, cork handle has held to many hooks in its life Re: antique rework

Doug,
For a 1953 rod, it is likely that the only real reason to do anything with the rod is to restore it for a wall hanger. i.e. Today's blanks are so much better, that you would not likely be fishing with this rod. So, with respect to what you want to do, or how much you want to do - imagine the look that you want the rod to be, when it is hanging on display. If you strip the guides, it would make is very simple to remove the fore grip and rear grip on the rod without doing anything to the reel seat. So, if you wanted a nice looking for for display, that would be a nice thing to do on the rod. i.e. strip the guides, strip the grips, replace the grips, rewrap and recoat the guides with epoxy. But, unless you want to do this for sentimental reasons, it likely makes more sense to spend time on a more contemporary rod. Be safe Re: antique rework

Roger, my thought was to restore it , rod is separate from handle secures by twist collar. have matching president reel.
It was my Dads rod , I was going to see if Basspro might want the set Re: antique rework

Whoever is interested in that rod will most likely want it as is. But, if you decide to rewrap it, go without epoxy. Dennis J. Danku (Sayreville,NJ) Re: antique rework

If you are going to restore it to original then the correct finish would probably be spar varnish over a lacquer color preserver. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
