I have a customer who wants a catfish rod completely stripped and redone. The problem is the finish is harder than other ones I've done and I've never had to take a reel seat off. Any ideas I can do without harming the blank. I don't know if I should try and use a lighter or what.
Thanks Ben Eipert Eipert Custom Rods Re: Rod Fix

If it has a UV cure type finish that can be significantly harder than most common epoxy thread finishes. Heat won't do much for you and the amount you'd need could damage the blank. Best I've done is to chip and crack the finish off with a single edge blade or fine tipped screwdriver. Sometimes you can get a thread edge going and unwind it and quickly spin the old finish off in bits and pieces.

a heat gun should soften up the wraps so you can start there,no? Re: Rod Fix

The UV cure finishes don't soften much, if at all, under heat.
