Hi All,
I want to build a all black casting rod. But I want it to be all flat black colour including the components. Is it possible to make the finish epoxy flat? Without a glossy finish. Also looking for a flat black colour blank. 6'9", M-MH, fast action. Am I going to have to paint a blank to find this? Thank You Re: Coloured Epoxy

I have taken the high gloss finish off epoxied wood with 0000steel wool. Lightly just to take the gloss away. Hope this helps Re: Coloured Epoxy

You can do some experimenting with flattening agents in your guide coating epoxy finish.
I think that a common agent to use to flatten the finish is Talc. [www.walgreens.com] Baby powder even smells good. So, now your rods can be baby bottom "Fresh". Do a few tests to determine the amount of talc needed to get the finish that you want. I suspect that you will get the effect with only a little talc added to the finish. Be safe Re: Coloured Epoxy

By the way, talc will have the side effect of making the finish thicker, so you may have to do as Bill B does and add a few drops of Acetone to thin the mix before applying on your rod.

James,
That will work fine to color the epoxy. But unless you mix in a flattening agent, the flat black surface will still be shiny. Be safe Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
