Coloured Epoxy

Hi All,

I want to build a all black casting rod. But I want it to be all flat black colour including the components. Is it possible to make the finish epoxy flat? Without a glossy finish. Also looking for a flat black colour blank. 6'9", M-MH, fast action.

Am I going to have to paint a blank to find this?

Thank You

I have taken the high gloss finish off epoxied wood with 0000steel wool. Lightly just to take the gloss away. Hope this helps

You can do some experimenting with flattening agents in your guide coating epoxy finish.

I think that a common agent to use to flatten the finish is Talc.

Baby powder even smells good.

So, now your rods can be baby bottom "Fresh".

Do a few tests to determine the amount of talc needed to get the finish that you want.
I suspect that you will get the effect with only a little talc added to the finish.

Be safe

By the way, talc will have the side effect of making the finish thicker, so you may have to do as Bill B does and add a few drops of Acetone to thin the mix before applying on your rod.

James,
That will work fine to color the epoxy. But unless you mix in a flattening agent, the flat black surface will still be shiny.
