My question is, when you build a rod, do you use the descriptive sticker/decal that comes with the blank? If you do, do you put a coat of finish over it or do you apply it to the blank and leave it as is? Steve Hartzell Lake Conroe - Willis, Texas Re: Rod blank sticker/decal

Depending on the finish of the blank (glossy or matte), it is advantageous to put a thin coat on the blank BEFORE you apply the decal. I always do. If you don't, the decal looks "cloudy". Re: Rod blank sticker/decal

I just put a Canadian Flag deco on a white gloss MHX blank and covered it with epoxy and it looks great! Re: Rod blank sticker/decal

Steve,
I apply the rod description decal to all of my blanks, since my customers want them. I apply the decals directly to the blank and then give them a couple of light coats of Krylon Crystal Clear urethane and let it dry overnight. That way the decal will not curl and smear when applying a protective coat of epoxy. I have used color preserver and fixative to protect the decal from the final coat of epoxy; but I prefer the Krylon Crystal Clear as it dries fast and the second coat can be applied within minutes of the first coat. Works great! Don Campbell don@sensorfishingrods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
