Rod blank sticker/decal

My question is, when you build a rod, do you use the descriptive sticker/decal that comes with the blank? If you do, do you put a coat of finish over it or do you apply it to the blank and leave it as is?

Depending on the finish of the blank (glossy or matte), it is advantageous to put a thin coat on the blank BEFORE you apply the decal. I always do. If you don't, the decal looks "cloudy".

I just put a Canadian Flag deco on a white gloss MHX blank and covered it with epoxy and it looks great!

Steve,

I apply the rod description decal to all of my blanks, since my customers want them. I apply the decals directly to the blank and then give them a couple of light coats of Krylon Crystal Clear urethane and let it dry overnight. That way the decal will not curl and smear when applying a protective coat of epoxy. I have used color preserver and fixative to protect the decal from the final coat of epoxy; but I prefer the Krylon Crystal Clear as it dries fast and the second coat can be applied within minutes of the first coat. Works great!
