Thanks for the leads, Folks...Much appreciated. Colour is not a problem. It's the time spent removing resin, on some of the lower end Asian rods, for one or two guides, where the ceramics have popped out. These are the 79.99-129.99 sticks sold anywhere.
These offshore-made rods usually use a low-cost resin, which is very hard, and comes off in shards, leaving humps and bumps where it ate into the gel coat, or just made ridges between the thread wraps. In order to effect an affordable repair, not spending inordinate amounts of life-force removng _all_ the resin, I use a thick thread, which will burnish into and over these ridges. If I put down the cost for a fully-removed resin, it could be treble the cost of a regular wrap on a rod using North American soft resin, like Threadmaster, etc. It goes to the time clock. Another cosmetic issue: if one removes all the resin, on some rods, sometimes the gel coat comes along for the ride, making a pinto pony type rod, meaning the replacement guide may need re-positioning to cover up the blotch. Cheers, and re-thanks for the leads. KD Re: Heavy Thread?
