I have always thought you could interchange sections from different blanks of the same make and model. Some manufacturers have told me flat out "no", they have to have the rod in hand to make sure the sections fit exactly. Other people have given me the impression that if the overlap of two sections is "long enough" all is OK.
What is the deal with this? Should we expect the overlap between sections on each rod to be consistent within a tight tolerance? Is there a minimum after which the length of the overlap does not matter? Is it possible the overlap can be too great? Thanks, Tony Re: Combing Sections from Different Blanks

Yes, the overlap can be too short or too long. but in most cases you can easily fit them to the desired overlap. Do you have the RodMaker article on fitting ferrules?
Now here's something else that a major blank manufacturer recently told me. He said that his company fits all their ferrule overlaps, ultra-light to surf, at 2 inches. He said they were striving for consistency and wanted their multi-piece rods to feature sections of the same length - which you can't easily do in a 4-piece rod if each ferrule uses a different amount of overlap. He finished by saying none of it was quite as scientific as many people might think, but that it had been working well for them many years now. ................ Depending on what you are willing to pay
You may be better sending it in and having the company fit a new tip If you have Scrap and some thing ALMOST fits There are ways to adjust Very time consuming And depending on the fit Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
