Good afternoon folks,
A long-time friend who recently saved my life on a recent trout outing brought me a Fenwick Spinning rod to have a guide replaced. The rod label indicates that it is a 5'3" MHX rod and was made in China for Fenwick. The rod blank is a matte graphite Grey. The wraps appear to be a mottled brown a bit like darkish cinnamon. The thread wraps are translucent, but the mottling almost looks as if the thread wraps were not packed tightly. I have tried all of the brown threads I have including a metallic Brown. Without CP my threads all turn extremely dark. With CP only the PacBay Mocha comes close to the Fenwick brown. I've already removed the guide that is missing a ring. I was surprised at how easy the thread and epoxy came off. However the translucence of the thread indicates the absence of CP. The thread on the rod also appears to have a larger diameter than the Size A that I use. I am hoping that some of you have made repairs on a Fenwick Rod and can give me your best guess as to the color of thread on the rod. Thank you all for your help. Mike Blomme Re: Fenwick Brown

The traditional Fenwick brown thread was later made available to the public by Gudebrod as #5274 and referred to as Chestnut Brown. Not sure if the later oriental made rods used that same color or not, but it's worth looking into. I'd think many company's offer that same matching color under the old Gudebrod #.

The Fenwick color that Gudebrod offered originally was #541. It is slightly lighter the the #5274 that Gudebrod had. Check out Fishhawk threads in the sponsor section. If I remember correctly, They were using #'s that were close to Gudebrod colors. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
