You might look into using fly tying thread. It also comes in several different sizes that may be suitable for your needs. Re: 00 Nylon Thread

Winston,
I have been looking but to no avail. What do you use it on?? I bought some black "00" silk. Not really good for my purposes - saltwater fly rods. Herb Re: 00 Nylon Thread

Folks,
Thanks to all for the suggestions, but I'm trying to discover if anyone is making or maybe thinking about making 00 NYLON thread for guide wrapping. I make bamboo fly rods and I love using the Gudebrod 00 nylon. (Just can't find it anymore-those of us who love it hoard it) Not traditional I know, but while I have, and use many different smaller diameter silk threads, I really can't stand them. Why bamboo folks still stick to---silk, well it's tradition I guess. I just haven't found any silk that doesn't fuzzy up, and even with some special finishing techniques, using silk still takes more effort and time than nylon. A size nylon is OK, but the older 00 Gudebrod is the best. I just wish someone would re-introduce it. Winston Re: 00 Nylon Thread

Winston, I have to agree with you, I have never liked silk thread. It may be fine for sewing and for rod building if you never have to touch it, but my coarse fingers could never get a smooth wrap. I had to lightly torch it every time. Even then I had trouble getting a perfect finish. Re: 00 Nylon Thread

Hi Winston,
You could look at madeira Polyneon 60 weight thread. I use a lot of the 40 weight which is slightly smaller than "a" thread and I've found it fine for all my saltwater builds. The 60 weight is smaller again but I've never handled or used it. You have to use cp or you won't get spool colours but I have never found it a problem. The stuff contains silicon for use in embroidery machines and will cause fisheyes in the finish. You can put a few inches of thread in the finish when mixing and applying and that stops the fisheyes but the thread then behaves like regular nylon and turns translucent after finish. The darker colours remain fairly unchanged. Not as many colours available in the 60 weight but still almost 100 colours. ESFNEM Col Port Kembla, NSW Australia Re: 00 Nylon Thread

You might want to try Ed Gamble. He bought most of the thread from Wel-tec/Gudebrod after they closed in January. There was certain colors of 00 in stock. Re: 00 Nylon Thread
