Using Google to search forum

I thought I would pass on this tip for searching a site. Someone shared this on a bass fishing forum, and I thought it was pretty good. You can search the rodbuilding forum using the built in search function, but it has limitations. For example, search for "965" and you will not get any results.

Now to use google, pull up a google search screen. Type the following: site:rodbuilding.org 965

The terms following site:rodbuilding.org will be the terms searched for within the rodbuilding forum. If you run the same search for the 965, you see you'll get a lot of hits. Basically, you'll be able to find any thread with 965 in it.

Hopefully this will help with searches.

Thanks Jeremy - I just tried it and it does work well. I like it much better than the built in search function

This is a very useful search tool for most websites. It lets you search for common words and short words as well. You can put the search terms either before or after "site:url," but it is important that there be no space after the colon. Also, some sites do not permit the Google bot to crawl them, so this won't work on those, but i haven't found many of those. Thanks for posting this.

Yup! Good idea passing along the tip.

Believe me it's tedious but, if you sit down and dedicate an afternoon teaching yourself how to fully use google, you will not want for knowledge ever again.

I use the "Site:" command for a lot of my searches and it is simply awesome.
