problem with color preserver

I'm finishing up two builds, and am having a problem that I haven't encountered before. I use Cason's clear color preserver; I've used it on several rods and have never had a problem up until now. However, a couple days ago I noticed that one of the wraps on one rod had a spot where the thread had discolored slightly, going darker than the rest of the wrap; elsewhere on that same rod, there were a couple spots where the CP was dry to the touch, but looked still wet - the thread was darker than the rest of the wrap. Then yesterday I discovered three different wraps on the other rod that had little congealed spots of CP like jelly - it had not soaked into the wrap, but had dried as a blob - not amusing.
I didn't apply any more CP this time than I normally do. We've had a lot of rain from Thursday to today, so I'm guessing humidity might have played a role. This jar of CP is several months or more old. Any ideas on what caused this? And what can I do to get rid of the congealed blobs? Re: problem with color preserver

Most likely the product has evaporated a bit over the "several months or more old" which makes it a bit thicker now. Any time you have blobs or congealed areas you've put on too much for the particular viscosity you're working with.

I just got a bottle of the Cason's CP and have been testing it against other CP's. I also noticed darker areas of thread. I didn't have any problem with jel spots though. Re: problem with color preserver

Try contacting Cason with your issue or question. He has a web site with a contact link. Just internet search for Cason CP to find it. Also let him know which version of CP your have and how long you had it and where you got it. Re: problem with color preserver

I was under the impression that Cason's CP was long gone. I can no longer access their website. Hopefully it just moved to a new location. I think Ray Adams was a rep for them at one time so maybe he can chime in. Re: problem with color preserver

I have not heard anything about Bill closing the business and the website is still up with the same URL.
I had a bit of the same darkening problem but only when I tried to rush things and not wait for it to dry completely. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: problem with color preserver

I had the same problem with this product, was told a new bottle of better stuff was coming, never came. Reminded the maker, still never came. I'm sticking with the old standards. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
