I have an HP 6310. It's an older model, but works great. The newer ones do not print the black dark enough. Try to get an older model HP.

Papilio offers a drying powder to help with ink puddling. [www.texascraft.com]

Another thing to try is to back down the amount of ink your printer puts down. This is managed using the transparency setting for your image.

I have issues with our Epson printer and puddling. I've since gone, like Andres, to using an older HP photo printer made for printing 4x6 photos. It has its own set of issues due to the way that particular model feeds paper through the printer, but the ink works well with the Papilio media.

Check your printer's various settings for different type papers. On my last Epson, the matte paper setting was perfect for the Papillo white vinyl.

Tom,

My Epson works great on the white vinyl, it's the metallics that it has issues with. I should have elaborated a bit more.

Thanks,

Joe

within the hour, I ste up a new HP5525 all in one ink jet. I prtinted my first label on it and all is well with it. That is all I can tell you. My old Lexmark did pretty well too. I told the guy at the store that I was going to use it for decals and he said not to use a laser printer.

You may have to use a different setting. I've had good results with the metallic sheets on an Epson, but don't remember what setting I used. The glossy photo stock might be the right one as I think it puts less ink on the page due to the ink not being able to soak in.

Just going to take some experimentation. Set up a small graphic on a page and then you can move it around, using the same single sheet (letting it dry between runs) until you hit on the right combination.

I use a cannon mx410 - for printing both Metallics and white. I used to have an HP, but it sucked up ink too quickly, and if I didn't use it for a few days, would give me trouble.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but what kind of papers do you guys use for printing decals? Papilio? Metallics? Can anyone post a link please?

Just a question. I am about to start printing my own labels and I want to use the clear labels on a matt black blank, what printer would the experts recommend I buy and can you select the color that will show up on the label against the matt black blank, ay white.

I would sure appreciate some help on this one.

Thanks

Clear labels don't work very well. You'll do better on a white label or paper and making a background color on the label to match the blank as close as you can.

You can either paint the blank white or put a bank white decal under where the clear decal will go. Use a black background and you will get what I have in the pic.
