Madeira Thread

Hey guys,
I have been using Madeira for a little while now and have run across issues with it and color preserver (I have been usung flex coat color preserver). Basically when I have a pattern with dark colors under lighter colors I still get some color bleed through even with color preserver. Have any of you noticed this? Is this an issue only with flex coat brand?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I haven't used Mareria thread so I can't help with you there, but how many coats of CP are you applying? When I do mine I apply three coats of CP before applying epoxy.

I, too, always seem to experience bleed through from a dark colored blank or dark underlying thread when using light colored regular nylon thread. The brand of thread or brand of color preserver doesn't seem to make much of a difference in avoiding the bleed through. To avoid these issues, I use mainly metallic or NCP threads which don't require color preserver and won't bleed through.

Hi Steve,
I use mainly madeira thread for all my builds and I get pretty good results. When I do under and over binds it's normally dark over light so i don't have a problem with bleeding from that. I have a few that are just light colours including white over a dark blank and they not prefect but still good IMO. I always pack a lot, use threadmaster chromaseal for cp and apply three coats. That gives me spool colours on most thread and about 95% spool colour on the really light threads like white, pale yellow etc.
I don't think the bleed issue is linked to madeira but most threads. Pack carefully and use a few coats of good colour preserver and you should be able to get it as good as possible.

It is like putting light paint over dark, very hard or almost impossible to completely cover up the dark bottom color.

Thanks for the input guys. I I am pretty sure packing is not an issue but ill double check next rod. I never had bleed with NCP thread, only with madeira. I usually do one solid coat of CP so ill try adding another (or two) next round.. The reason I assume that is not the issue is I can see bleed through with the first layer of CP, so I cant imagine it would clear up with additional layers.
Maybe it is just the nature of the beast.
Either way thanks again guys. Always a help here.

NCP is a very different thread as it contains chalk to make it opaque.

2 coats min...sometimes i'll use a water based cp and thin it a bit,not a lot, just a bit.this gives better penetration and more even coverage, drying time is also reduced a bit.i used to use casons but have switched to u-40 and have have better results lately.packing is usually the issue with light over dark, but using Docs roller technique really helps flatten the threads and make the gaps disapear ,negating the problem almost completely.
