I've got a customer who wants a rod built for his father. His father is a big fox hunter and the customer wants a fox hound on the rod. This would be a tricolored dog and I was curious if anyone made decals of dogs? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Contact Decal Connection (on the left) and see if they are able to accommodate you.

I use laser water slide decals in full color for this.

Here is a recent one [www.rodbuilding.org]

I created the artwork in adobe illustrator then printed with a color laser printer onto papillio water slide decal paper.

Finished with a coat of threadmaster

The image compression on the photo library doesn't do the decal justice it is crisp and clean in person.

The first issue is to get an image that you are free to use. You can go to google images and find hundreds of photos, and if you add the search factor "clip art" to the search, you will get a bunch of styistic clip art kinds of images. If you contact the owners of the images, you may get permission to use the one of your choice.

Then, the decal has to be formatted such that it makes sense and is presented well on a rod, which is a challenging canvas. Any graphics program can be used to do this, but if you have no experience in using graphics programs, it is probably better to get professional help.

A foxhound has the advantage that the colors involved work well on lazer or inkjet printers. I have had little luck with water slide, but the papillio white vinyl peel and stick would work well with this subject.

If you chosse to persue a "do it yourself" process and want some detailed help, let me know. Your first step is to get an image you are authorized to use. Either clip art or photos can be done successfully.
