Every product is "Known to the state of California to cause cancer" - You just can't get away from it. The PCBs in the tape are probably less damaging than the lead in the weights

Maybe I'm no fun......but for those that care to know.....it is easy enough to obtain a MSDS. When I think electrical tape I think scotch 33+. You will be happy to know it is safe to eat. Also to touch and inhale.

It does contain carbon black which has been linked to cancer (mostly bladder).

I don't know how well they would work on an open water rod but a product that I use on all my ice rod to hold my reels on is basically a thick "O" ring. It's made by Cold Snap.
