Recently read on some electrical tape "this product contains a chemical know to the state of Calif. to cause cancer". Never really thought on it, but is it bad to use this stuff on TN handles that you hold a lot?
Can anyone recomend a better tape for Tennessee Handles? I do prefer tape, and don't want to thread wrap the reel on or screw it on like I have seen done. Thanks! Re: Electrical Tape on Handles - Health Hazard?

Almost any product will cause cancer, or some other ailment, if you ingest enough of it.
Try not to eat the tape, and if you must, just try to keep it below one roll per week and you should be safe. .............. Re: Electrical Tape on Handles - Health Hazard?

Most any product that is so toxic that it can or will cause disease even with limited and occasional exposure isn't going to be allowed on the market without some serious safeguards. But laws now require such legal statements any time a product contains anything, in whatever quantity and under whatever chance, could cause cancer. Unfortunately, these type laws and statements have many people convinced that if they just bump up against a wall covered in lead paint they're going to get cancer.

If you look closely at the hang tag on most fishing rods these days, they say the rod also contains a substance known to the state of California to cause cancer. Re: Electrical Tape on Handles - Health Hazard?

Years ago the Gov't came out and said that Cranberries caused cancer in rats. Few people had cranberry dressing for their Thanksgiving dinner that year. Then it came out that you would have to eat 2 bushels of the berries daily for a couple of years in order to contract cancer. This scare too came from California. One of the most over regulated states in America. Re: Electrical Tape on Handles - Health Hazard?

Some electrical (vinyl) tapes contain lead. There are some new electrical tapes on the market that have since replace lead with another compound. I'm not sure but I think 3M's higher end electrical tapes have been redesigned to take the lead out, but that doesn't mean you can eat them. Chester May your line be tight and your beverages be cold! A Dr ounce told me that electrical tape helps heal cuts. Something in the glue promotes healing. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/23/2013 07:11PM by Paul Luechtefeld. Re: Electrical Tape on Handles - Health Hazard?

I don't think I would believe that, I use to make electrical when I was gainfully employed in my prior life before moving on to the good life. Re: Electrical Tape on Handles - Health Hazard?

Silicone Tape or Rescue Tape is what I use. It fuses to itself and doesn't have a stick residue. Re: Electrical Tape on Handles - Health Hazard?

I do know that duct tape cares of skin warts.
If you h ave a skin wart - just wrap it with duct tape for a couple of weeks and the wart will be gone. Re: Electrical Tape on Handles - Health Hazard?

The tape thing about healing is true to an extent. The glue in the tape is a mild irritant to the skin and your immune system rallies the White blood cells to the area to fight the irritation which also fights infection and will kill viruses like warts and such. well it's better than when i was in in Culinary school and you woulc cut yourself and the instructor would come by with a hot spoon to cauterize it. Ouch is right. don't know which hurt more the cut or the burn. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
