What is the best glue for a 50lbs class roller tip top? Should I use 5 min or rod bond?

Personally, only use 5 min. on an emergency repair where the guides are already wrapped and don't need adjustment. for a roller tip I would advocate for the rod bond where you have ample time for minute adjustments. JM O. I am sure there will be differing opinions.

5 minute epoxy is all you need for roller tips. Rod bond takes too long to cure for just a tip or even a roller tip, with the exception of 10 minute rod bond.

Clean the tip where the top will go
Scrap with a razzor to take the finish off
I then put a drill bit into the tube to prep the inside of the top

I have put several on and had to take them off and after a week -- Were a real pain Only showing they were glued very well

MIn 5 min

The thing I hate about 5 min epoxy is that you only have about 1 min to mix, then another min or two to apply, then it starts to set up. That is fine if you just want to glue up a tip, I ususally want to glue up several things at a time. The 5 min epoxy will not allow you to do this. I have even had trouble with epoxies that were rated slow cure, 30 min. Well that 30 mins is when they are no longer useable. That is why I only use slow cure epoxy for anything requiring an epoxy. I hate the quick cure. I don't like to be rushed in what I am doing with a rod!!!

Since the OP asked what to use for "a" 50# tip I'll assume he's not trying to install 10 at a time.

I only use 5 minute epoxy for any and all tips...from ultra-light to Unlimited class tackle (and I've built a heck of alot more 30# and up gear than I have ultra-lights).

Jay, I am glad it works for you. I wouldn't use it on a bet.

I won't bet you to then, Randy. LoL

It's good we don't all use the same products...that way we can keep all the manufacturers in business. It's a win-win.
