Hi Scott,
Best tip, get your local auto repair shop to do it for you. You don't have to buy any equipment, learn how to do it or learn the safety issues to protect your self. They have all the necessary equipment and expertise to do it properly. All you have to do is get it there, decide what colour you want and pay for it. If you have a good relationship with the owner then you''l get it done well and fairly cheaply. If you want to do it yourself then I'll let others answer that question.
It's cheaper if you prep the blanks yourself so be careful if you use a sanding method especially with graphite but the glass blanks are a lot more forgiving. A mild stripper has worked well for a lot of builders but I prefer to sand them, CAREFULLY.
The results for me have been excellent.

Hi Scott,
If your new then there is a group that I formed, SEARBS, South East Australian Rodbuilders, and we have a few builders in the Sydney area plus a few more where I am in Wollongong. We will be having a meet in August and have Mark Fisher as a guest, he is also a member and a top Aussie builder. If you would like to join then send me an email, just click on my name to see it.
Be good to hear from you.

There is an article in the online library here that offers some finishing and refinishing tips on rod blanks.

G'Day Scott I'v done a couple using auto paint with an plasticiser & then a coat of "Perma Gloss" .The results were OK but it,s not something I like doing as it is very time consuming .If you need any further info drop me an Email .As Col said getting a panel shop to do it is very cost effective & probably a better job

Hi Scott,
The painting question crops up regulary so if you use the search function at the top of the page you will get a lot of info. Use "painting blanks" and only a years worth at a time or you will be overwhelmed.
