Did a lot of searching and still can't nail this down.
I have a Texas customer looking for a 7 1/2' heavy grass (flipping) jig rod for fishing hydrilla (BB1?), and a 7' 11" rod for 7-9" swimbaits, 2oz or more (Phoenix USB-711MH-B?) . Here in MN a big bass is 19" and 4 pounds, so I'm a little outside my comfort zone as I have not used any blanks in this class yet. Welcome to input if you have knowledge of these blanks. Will consider all brands. Thanks! Update: The guy said extra-heavy grass jig... "basically a tree trunk for fishing in hydrilla" No casting - just flipping. _________________________________________ "Angling is extremely time consuming. Bob - website says 1/2 - 2 oz for that one. Will it handle over 2? What blank would you suggest for the 7.5' grass jig rod? Same one with 5" off the butt? _________________________________________ "Angling is extremely time consuming. That's sort of the whole point." - Thomas McGuane Edited 1 time(s). The SWB956-Blend-MHX is under-rated. It will handle 3 oz. easily. Bob McKamey Mud Hole Custom Tackle bobm@mudhole.com Re: Updated: Extra-heavy grass jig and Swimbait Blank suggestions

MHX - SWB956 will handle it. Threw big A-rigs on it for two days ripping them through grass, handled 5+Lb fish very well. Blank is a bad mama! Re: Updated: Extra-heavy grass jig and Swimbait Blank suggestions

A rod for heavy flipping in my opinión is not the best choice for throwing swimbaits with treble hooks. If this is the type he's planning on throwing, a true flipping stick is to unforgiving with this type bait. I have a BB1 for flipping, and a Phenix Ultra for single hook swimbaits but my go to swimbait rod for baits with treble hooks in the lure range specified is a Batson SW967. Joel, good point and I think if he could build more than 1 rod would go that route! Re: Updated: Extra-heavy grass jig and Swimbait Blank suggestions

He want two different rods for these two techniques. He's throwing line-through swimbaits with trebles on the swimbait rod.

I personally dont treat linethrough trebles the same as I do hardbaits with trebles and fish linethroughs on my same swimbait rods. More of a factor is the weight of the swimbait, not the hook. Now if I'm throwing a glide bait or a topwater bait with trebles, then yes, I'll look for something a little softer.
But get this. On the SWB956, I've caught fish on both 1/2oz swimjigs and fully loaded big A-rigs. It handled both very well. The blank is a performer with a pretty wide range of weights it will handle. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
