Souty East Queensland Rod Building Weekend - July 27 & 28, 2013
Posted by: David Boyle (---.lnse4.cha.bigpond.net.au)

G'day,
We are holding a rod building weekend at Mount Cotton (South East Queensland, Australia) on 27 & 28th of July. It will be a mix of general rod building, as well as a number of organised demos covering things such as thread art, decals, and photography. It is also a great way of making new contacts & friends.

Numbers are limited so mail me if you would like to find out more.

Any donations to be used as door prizes would be gladly accepted.

Cheers
Dave Boyle

Hi David,
Hope you get a good rollup and have an enjoyable weekend.
You'll probably get a new member sometime next year as fellow SEARB founder Barry Chapman is headed your way. Will be good for him to get to a meet and make some new friends.
Good guy and does some interesting stuff.

Best wishes for the meeting Dave. It's great to see these little meetings and get togethers taking off. You never know - we may have to have an annual Rod Builders convention sometime?

Regards
Mark

Mr Fisher,
That sounds good to me. Needs to be in the winter so we can get a bit of releif. Are you game to go to Lang Park on a Wednesday night!! Followed by a rodbuilding convention the next weekend if we're still alive!!!

Thanks all for the good wishes. It should be a great weekend.

Mark - definitely! I'm keen.
Col - I'm looking forward to meeting Barry.
Curtis - thanks, just dropped you an email.

To me the best thing about these meets is seeing others doing even the simple stuff. It's amazing what tricks you can pick up from watching somebody at work. For example, At a Sydney Rodbuilders meet once we had a visit from Steve Ross who ran Black Diamond Tailored Rods. He saw me working on the rod lathe and the first thing he suggested was to turn the foot pedal around, backwards, so the hinge was near my heel rather than near my toes. Not intuitive, but I tried it and that's how I use it now as I have more control over speed that way.

It looks like we will have several top class weavers attending the event, so thread art is definitely on the agenda. I'm really looking forward to seeing them doing their stuff.

Cheers

Cheers to all, see you in August.

G'day Dave

Wish you all the best for your meeting sounds like its going to be well attended.I was checking my roster to see if i had those days off but no luck.It would of been
a good excuse to go and visit my daughter on the Gold coast.

Now for the state of origin thing Mark Fisher has already laid down the gauntlet with his blue Gurushi so you Queenslanders had better come up with something
pretty good.LOL

Not sure if the Americans know what the state of origin is about but rumour has it Col was handing out blue jumpers when he was over this year.

cheers

I'm actually a cockroach Ray, and grew up in Sydney. Don't tell anyone though 'cause these canetoads might chase me out of town!
Go the BLUES!

I like the idea of a State of Origin Rod Builders Convention. I don't know if I could handle sitting among so many Banana Benders at Lang Park but I would be willing to try it if I got to go to the Rod Building Convention. Rod Churchward would look after me? Baz and Dave still qualify as Cockroaches so we're off to a good start. I know Pedro built a State of Origin rod a little while ago. After the loss a few weeks ago he's still suffering "The Blues".

I'm hoping my next build is an OMEN!! A new float rod for Blackfish, BLUE carbon fibre grips, BLUE reelseat, BLUE binding and to top it off a BLUE Aussie made centre pin reel. Have to think about the threadwork but it will also be BLUE.
Should have it done by game three.
The Banana Benders have had it too good for too long!!

Hi David,
Good to see sum one has started the ball rolling. Hope you have a good weekend, sorry to say, I will not be able to attend, will be in Townsville.
Don't worry about being run out of town, David, as that won't happen. The retraining, to make you a Queenslander, may take a little while. With our help you will come to love the Maroons LOL.
Great idea for a combined Rod Convention. Maybe one year in one State, next year the other. Let's do it. Maybe we could entice a visitor from the USA.
Regards, Rod.
