Hey fellas, is there a guideline for suggested monofilament line weights for use with fly blanks built as spinning rods?
I know of the general guide of line weight/16 to get an approximately lure weight. Just wondering if there is something similar for fly line weight to mono line weight. Thanks! Re: Fly 4/6/8/10 equivalent mono?

Not really, because most fly lines have a great deal of straight line breaking strength. It's the leader/tippet where any limit becomes an issue and not many fly blank makers even bother giving a leader test recommendation.
About the best you can do is try and determine about what leader test most guys are using with respective line weight rods and then use a similar pound test mono on those rods. ............. Re: Fly 4/6/8/10 equivalent mono?

One book that had a generic graph for tippet size and hook sizes that may be readily available would be the Orvis Book of Flyfishing. Re: Fly 4/6/8/10 equivalent mono?

Thanks Tom and Spencer for the replies.
Tom, that's what I was thinking as well just need some confirmation I was heading in the right direction. Spencer, I did not think of that and now I gotta hunt down a copy for reference. Thanks! Re: Fly 4/6/8/10 equivalent mono?

Spinning reels have drags which may be adjusted to a wide range of line test-strengths, regardless of the blank's rating as a fly rod blank or a spinning rod blank. With modern lines the strength of the line used on a spinning rod has become relatively trivial compared to its casting performance. Re: Fly 4/6/8/10 equivalent mono?

I was changing some fly rod(SAGE RPLX w10,w11,w12,G.LOOMIS IMX W10,W12/13) in spinning rods and i catch a lot of nice big specks, red fish fishing with FIRELINE ORIGINAL 4 lb.,SPIDERWIRE ULTRACAST 8 lb.,10 lb and GAMAKATSU crappie jigs With this rods i can cast 1 oz. weight without problem. I was making this change because i am fishing from the bank with long rods(over 10 ' ) just wit artificial.. You can use any monfilament if you know how to set the drag on your reel. With some rods built by me on fly blank ALL STAR AUSTIN 9' W4,W5+extension i was catching with FIRELINE ORIGINAL SMOKE 4 lb +4 lb. 15 fluorocarbon leader many white bass on jigs and 15 lb. buffalo carp,15 lb.flat head catfish, and many paddle fish (C&R) fault hooked.
