Questions re: Old Blanks

Got lucky and received a ton of rod building stuff from an older builder who just wanted to give them away: Pac Bay wrapper, thread, etc.

The real finds I think are several blanks, wondering about the specs for them:

Fenglass SP 846 (White)
Fenglass SS 1323 (Honey)
Fenglass SS 1201 (Honey)
Lami MB 963M (Honey)

Thanks, Steven

Lamiglas still makes that blank, lots of places to see it to the left.

Steven,
For any blank, you can just use the CCC system to generate your own specs.

Tie on various weights to the blank to get the same deflection and you will be able to figure your power and blank speed.

Good luck

Forgot to say the Lamiglas blank is designed for Salmon fishing. The MB stands for Mooching Blank.

I believe the SS 1323 is a 11' blank.

Mark, you are right it is an 11 foot blank, my old eyes skipped to a different line in the 1985 Fenwick Catalog.

Actually the MB black is used on the east coast on stripers, etc.

Thanks for all the responses. Was hoping to use the MB black for stripers here in East Hampton, NY.

Those SS blanks are still VERY desireable. Those were made into the Big SurfStik by Fenwick. Graphite butts with fenglass tips.

Mark, the SP blanks were made with graphite mixed with fenglass, the ss blanks were all Fenglass.

Hmmmm. I thought SP stood for Spinning. SS was for SurfStik. I'm probably mixed up. I do have 3 of the SS blanks customized right now and 1 SS1385 unmolested tip section and 1 broken SS1081. Mine all have graphite butts with E-glass tips. Wouldn't the SP be GSP if it was a graphite blank?

Mark, I am looking at the 1985 Fenwick catalog and the SP are listed as New Atlanticstiks For the East Coast, and it states that these blanks are a mating of HMG Graphite and Fenglass. The SS are under the heading of Fenglass Big Surfstik Surf Rod Blanks. I don't know if they later (than 1985) started producing the surf blanks with the combination of glass and graphite. The surf blanks were all white Fenglass at this point.
