Good evening everyone,
I am repairing a rod for a dear friend that is a Shakespeare Power Rod PBWS-512 12'0" and rated for 10-25lb test. I need to replace the butt guide and have absolutely no idea as to what size it may be. I am guessing that it might be a 40 or a 50 but don't know so I am asking. Thanks for all the help and have a great evening. Tom Re: butt guide for shakespeare power rod

Thomas,
It could very well be that size. I might suggest that you check the next guide up the rod and then go about 5 guide sizes larger. Re: butt guide for shakespeare power rod

Is the guide missing so that you can't measure the inside of the frame/outside of the insert?
Thw guides are listed as "Stainless steel double-bridged guides with aluminum oxide inserts". Typically those guides aren't very high so I would want about the biggest one I could find on a surf rod. The rod sells for $39.99 so I wouldn't put much into it. A "dear friend" deserves to be talked into something better. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: butt guide for shakespeare power rod

Russell, you've got an excellent point and as of now they don't have funds for what they would like. I am not looking to do a lot, just a simple guide replacement. They are actually using the darn thing for a catfish rod. I have finally gotten the rod in my possession so I will measure the diameter and go from there.
Thanks for the help gents and have a good one. Tom GySgt USMC RETIRED!!!!! Re: butt guide for shakespeare power rod

For later on....for when times are better. I have noticed a lot of the catfish guys like a blank that I love also....the Batson's rclb series. The rclb70l will fish 20# test perfectly and cast upwards of four ounces. Count on about 5# test difference for each change in power. The have them in 7 and 8 foot blanks from extra light to medium power. Call the extra light a 15# test blank. The rclb70l is 40-45 buck range and less on sale. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Russell,
Thank you very much and I will make sure that I pick a few of those up. I have recently moved to the Truman Lake area of Missouri and there is a LARGE catfish following out here. I will make sure that I turn a few of these guys onto them. Thanks, Tom Re: butt guide for shakespeare power rod
