How do a I look at a guide and tell it's size?
I have a broken rod in which I'd like to buy new guides but I don't know their sizes by just looking at them. Thank you. Re: What size is the guide I'm looking at?

You have to measure the OD of the ceramic ring or the ID of the guide frame if there is not insert. Re: What size is the guide I'm looking at?

John,
A nice tool to have in your rod shop is a long tapered stick. Then, just take all of the rods and guides around the shop - or in a supply store, and mark the stick. For smaller guides the tapered handles of artists brushes work well for this task. Basically, you are making the same thing that Jewelers have - which is a sizing stick that they use for measuring ring size. Except you now have a guide sizer.
