How to build a spigot insert

I'd like share with you my target to build a spigot insert from a carbon dowel and know your point of view about how to build it.
In other words I'm looking support about my following building criteria:
I'm starting from a piece of carbon dowel instead from a piece of hollow carbon (tube) because I think to have much robustness e much precision for fitting it (I'll work on heavy muskie 2 pieces rod) and I am thinking, for having the right taper, to scrape it with blade longitudinally without sand paper use to avoid ruin its fibers.
In your opinion, is the right way?
Any comments would be welcome, Thank you.

Hello Marco.

In my opinion I would think that a solid anything especially something as stiff as carbon would be asking for a break.

Others will chime in on this, Tom is on top of this kind of thing and undoubtedly will give you a better answer if he sees this post, or maybe Gary Loomis.

Have a good day!

Bob,

Marco,
I do it all of the time. i.e. use a solid piece of carbon or glass to make a joint.

Pretty simple.

I just chuck it into a drill and hold it against a spinning belt sander, moving it and or positioning it until it is complete.

I keep a caliper handy to check on the progress.

I generally prefer to use solid fiberglass than carbon - simply because it has a bit more give- and as the saying goes - is tougher.

Good luck

The better option is to make an oversleeve ferrule from glass.

I'd build an oversleeve.

Whatever you do, try to make the sleeve or spigot roughly the same stiffness/flexibility as the sections where they join.
